I came across this very brief article titled “Studies Suggest Vegans Really Are Saving The World” today and it reminded me of all the facts that people just aren’t informed about. There have been many scientific discoveries that prove Veganism can literally save our planet, humanity and YOU (if you mainly care about yourself). Unfortunately ignorance and the lack of critical thinking in much of our society has resulted in a majority of people believing the food industries propaganda over concrete scientific facts.
Why? because of the “Group Thinking” phenomenon; Appeal to Popularity (also known as Appeal to Common Practice and Appeal to the Masses): the fallacy of arguing that a claim must be true merely because a substantial number of people believe it. For Example: We grew up being told “milk is good for bones”, which is a complete and utter lie, as scientific evidence proves that cow’s milk is actually terrible for your health and unnatural to consume, oh and has nothing to do with “making strong bones”. However, we have been told since we were born that “milk is good for you, you must drink milk”, and thus we believe it however we have no ACTUAL valid reason or argument to say that cow’s milk is in fact good for our health. We simply believe it because “everyone” does.
Myself and many others on our planet stand by the valid argument that Veganism is in fact extremely beneficial for our planet, all the species, and humanity as a whole (yes, even the people starving in third world countries). So here are 6 REAL facts to think about. Because if you think you care about starving populations around the world, the environment, the destruction of rainforests among other things, think again about your lifestyle.
1.We are growing enough food to feed 10 billion people, however 82% of starving children live in countries where this food is fed to animals and these animals are eaten by Western countries.
2.According to researchers at Oxford University, worldwide veganism would also save some $700 billion to $1 trillion per year on health care, and cut food-related emissions by 70 percent.
3.Each day, a person who eats a vegan diet saves 1,100 gallons of water, 45 pounds of grain, 30 sq ft of forested land, 20 lbs CO2 equivalent, and one animal’s life.
4. Land required to feed 1 person for 1 year:
-Vegan: 1/6th acre
-Vegetarian: 3x as much as a vegan
–Meat Eater: 18x as much as a vegan
5.Animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of Amazon destruction.
6.Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from ALL transportation.
