GrassHopper Restaurant

This vegan restaurant is located at 310 College Street in Toronto, however there is also a location in The Junction. My boyfriend and I have been here once before this time, and everything was amazing, I had the veggie burger which was exceptional and the kale salad which I highly recommend trying (one of the best I have ever had), and baked chickpeas that were deliciously crispy. We also tried some drinks from their extensive cocktail menu and local craft beer menu, they have a huge selection of deliciously unique cocktails you HAVE to try like “Not Your Grandma’s Juice” among others. You are also able to turn any of their healthy juices into a cocktail by adding a shot of your fave drink! On this visit, we tried some new meals. We really enjoyed the vegan chilli cheese fries, the melted cheddar ‘cheese’ tasted just like the real thing! However, my boyfriend got the Quinoa Mac ‘N Cheese which he was not pleased with, I do not recommend getting this as it didn’t have the best cheese flavour in it. I got the Mushroom ‘N Rice Bowl which was great and I really enjoyed it, its gluten free and is made of sautéed cremini, brown button, Portobello mushrooms, onions, and bean sprout with tahini sauce over steamed red rice. We decided to get interesting and added some ‘upgrades’ to our bowls, the menu has a bunch of upgrades such as crispy tofu cubes, “beef” strips, and pulled “pork” however we tried the Gobo Root Fried Chunks, and yes they taste like a tree trunk… Unless you are a lover of roots I do not recommend this add on, however it has amazing health benefits since its anti-oxidant and a good source of inulin fibre and electrolyte potassium. All in all this place has fairly reasonable prices but the I feel like the portions are a bit small for the bowls. The ambience and decor is beautiful and the staff are friendly, I recommend trying out this little place and having some interesting cocktails with chilli cheese fries.
